Festival of Shelter

Festival of Shelter was an outdoor art exhibition launched by The Loon Gallery and Church of the Holy Trinity. Featuring the artists Alexander Hardashnakov, Oliver Roberts and others, the works were mounted on the exterior walls of Church of the Holy Trinity’s downtown campus. Small encampments that developed during the beginning of COVID provoked a public backlash against both homelessness in Toronto, and a fear of street-involved peoples, now a ubiquitus presence while all else was closed. In juxtapozition to a boarded up Eaton’s Center, Festival of Shelter provoked the question of who is deserving of space, presence and safety in our society.
